Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Vishnivetskaya explores taxonomic and functional diversity of microorganisms in diverse extreme environments, such as (i) subfreezing perennially frozen soil called permafrost with sampling sites located in north-eastern Siberia, Svalbard, High Canadian Arctic, Antarctica, Kamchatka, Qinghai–Tibet Plateau; (ii) thermal sites from Yellowstone National Park and fumarole fields of high altitude areas; (iii) heavy metals and ammonium contaminated sites; (iv) microbiome; and (v) impact of temperature gradient on bacterial adaptability using Exiguobacterium and Gram-positive bacteria as a model. She investigates the biodiversity, species biogeography, and adaptation to extreme environmental conditions through a variety of bacteriology and high-throughput techniques.
